View showing pit sawn drawer sides and base. The underside edges of the drawer bases are ridged, where they would have been in contact with the runners 'after centuries of use'. Any original drawer runners would have become very worn, so we have used newer oak and fitted them as 'recent replacements'. With added top retainers on the runners, the drawers don't tip when opened and although they are made to appear crudely old-fashioned, with a little beeswax, they run surprisingly accurately and smoothly.
