TUDOR STYLE OAK CUPBOARD - TOP
In the photo below it can be seen how the top boards would have shrunk back over the centuries and been later restored by inserting thin strips of oak (newer oak) to fill the gaps. Additionally, regularly lifting the furniture using the overhanging top may have weakened the 'original' oak pegs (also visible in the photo below) used to fix it down to the carcase framework. To reinforce the failing end fixing, screws would have been put in. As these may well have been early handmade screws we have used plain steel slot heads and re-filed the heads and slots and rusted them appropriately.
