All-round applied table rail mouldings were usually only found on withdrawing tables, where the shallow end overhang of the top (when closed) would allow full view of the carving. The top here would have been a later modification. In this photo you can see the slots that the lopers would have moved through to extend the 'original' drawer leaf table top ends......now 'long gone'!!
