The
wooden sink was hand made from elm boards which we have left virtually
untouched from their original state. Note the saw marks and aged patina
remaining and the slightly mis-shapen nature of the boards. This made
construction extremely difficult, especially achieving fully watertight
joints, but the end result, in our opinion, is far more pleasing on
the eye than the clinical and "too new" appearance of machine
planed boards. To correctly allow for any possible movement accross
the grain of the sink base, the sides of the sink are arranged with
the grain running vertical so they can all expand and contract in unison.
The 45 degree joints are reinforced with loose tongues all glued with
waterproof glue. The custom made detachable drainer was also made from
elm. |
